This post is dedicated to Aunt Lucy.
Before Christ I was a rebellious child repulsed by lessons. Pounding away on the piano keys, I believed that eventually a melody would emerge.
When I received Christ as my Lord and Savior I admitted my failure and inadequacy. I admitted that I could not play a melody without Him. He graciously and mercifully forgave me and began to give me lessons.
As Christ's new student He had to break me of my bad habit of pounding aimlessly on the piano keys. Slowly but surely He taught me to trust Him and showed me the basics. A soft, slow, and sometimes shakey melody flowed from Him to me, through my fingertips, and out of the piano.
As Christ continued teaching me I became lost in the pure joy of Him. I realized the music was not His purpose but an expression of who He is. My focus ceased from being on the rules, techniques, and lessons of piano playing. Rather, my focus was on the pure beauty of my amazing Teacher. I desired to reflect Him. I desired my music to reflect Him. He smiled at me in patience and compassion and told me to listen as I played. To my awe, my melody sounded like His! In the few shakey moments He would meet my gaze with mercy and correct my mistakes. This only made me adore Him more!
As Christ continues to teach me I know the music He teaches me to play will only become more beautiful. There is no end to the depth of my Teacher's talent, ability, goodness, and love. As long as I remain His faithful student He will reveal more of Himself to me and teach me a melody fit for Him, My King.
